Stress, Anxiety ………… just not feeling yourself

Sometimes I feel super stressed, I won’t lie at the best of times I’m hyper but that just how I am.  I speak with lots of girls who feel so bad about feeling off,  stressed or anxious.  It’s so common after being struck by Breast Cancer to have lots of these mix up unsettled emotions and pangs of fear.

How do you deal with them well here are my top stress busting tips !!!

  1.  Meditate – there is nothing like taking 30 minutes out just to focus on nothing, clear your mind and just relax.  You Tube has literally thousands of guided meditations.  I really got into meditation when I was going through chemo, I found it really helped my quiten my mind I always felt better after this.  I try to meditate daily.
  2. Exercise – to me exercise is the best medicine.  While going through chemo and I was feeling weak going to the gym and walking on a treadmill really made me feel like me.  It doesn’t have to be the gym, you can go for a walk, try some yoga or Pilates.  There is so many options out there so if you find a form of exercise you enjoy, the benefits are excellent.  If I’m feeling anxious or stressed I usually find a trip to the gym really helps.
  3. Talk to a professional – I think it always helps to discuss worries and fears.  By talking to a trained professional it can really help you to gain some perspective.  I myself attend a life coach, I have found it to be really beneficial in my recovery from Breast Cancer.  If I’m feeling mixed up or lacking direction I feel it really gets me back on track and helps me live in the now.
  4. Talk to a friend – Sometime just reaching out to your bestie can really help.  I am very lucky to have Fiona, (the other Breast Friend) we went to school together and by some strange coincidence  we were diagnosed with Breast Cancer within months of each other.  We both understand how each other is feeling if we are having those fearful, anxiety days.  – Also you can always contact me on Breast Friends if you need to speak also that what the page is there for xxxx
  5. Watch a good movie – sometimes getting lost in a funny movie can really help take your mind off whatever it is that is bothering you.  When I was first diagnosed I remember my cousin saying to me to keep positive and try to not dwell on stuff too much, he suggested funny movies and I have to say as much as I thought he was nuts at the time it really did help me.
  6. Read a uplifting book – I found The Secret was one of the best books I ever read, it made me feel motivated and uplifted.

There is no magic remedy that takes away stress, anxiety or the fear of whats around the corner.  But by making a little effort to pull away from negative feelings and focus on other stuff hopefully you will feel better and if you ever need to talk feel free to contact BREAST FRIENDS
