The Salt Clinic Rathcoole

So I woke up the day after St Stephens’s day and by god I felt like I had been hit by a truck.  Without sounding too disgusting I was a mucus machine.  I could not believe the quantities of mucus this little body was producing at a RAPID rate.   I tried to hold off going to the Doctor and just took it easy.  I knew I was feeling super sick when I had no inclination to go to the gym because even when I was going through chemo I still went to the gym.  But this dose floored me, I was tired, down in the dumps, had no appetite, and looked so very scary.

I gave it a week of home remedies to no avail and decided it was time to go to my GP.  He told me I had bronchitis and put me on antibiotics.  Fast forward 5 days and I was only getting worse, my inner worrier was shining bright as I’m sure all you girls are no different to me,any kind of ache and pain can let your imagination run riot.  On this occasion when I went to the doctor he said I had Flu, Bronchitis, Sinus Infection, Chest Infection, well now that diagnosis made sense.  They say when you get a dose of Flu you know it and I knew it.  I was prescribed Steroids Antibiotics Pain Relief and Cough Mixture.

It took a good few days before I started to improve.  The mucus situation was really irritating me, by chance I noticed The Salt Clinic and googled it.  It’s a clinic which provides a treatment called “Halotherapy, which is a powerful, natural treatment in a controlled air medium that simulates a natural salt cave microclimate to treat respiratory and skin disorders “  (as described by The Salt Clinic).

It caught my attention and with nothing to lose I booked myself in for a session.  You are brought into a room, its filled with comfy chairs, and the salt on the ground is like snow.  It’s actually a very relaxing atmosphere; you can read a book or mess on your phone while the treatment is taking place.  Basically all you need to do is sit back, relax and breathe.   Before I knew it my session was over.

After I left I could actually taste the salt on my skin.  That night I could feel my cough becoming more productive let’s say.  I was full of mucus but it was going nowhere.  All of a sudden I could feel it starting to shift.    I started to feel a bit better.  I said feck it I’d give it another try, I brought Rhys with me on this occasion as he has a persistent cough.  In the kids room there is a TV with Netflix and lots of toys so it’s really easy to keep them amused.

Rhys has a cough but its not productive it’s dry and he’s just not shaking it.  That night when he was in bed I checked on him and he was snoring really loud it sounded like something was loosening up.  The next day he coughed and it was a different cough it was much looser.

I have purchased 3 more sessions and am booked in again today.  I’m not saying this is a miracle cure but I certainly would recommend and have noticed a difference since attending.   They are based in Rathcoole village, they open 7 days a week so getting an appointment is never a problem.

I have attached some links for more information on the treatment

Here is some information I have taken directly from The Salt Clinic Website

HOW IT WORKS

Salt has many beneficial properties including:

  • Anti-bacterial
  • Anti- inflammatory
  • Mucolytic effects: loosens excessive mucus and speeds up mucocilary transport
  • Eliminates pathogen agents (airborne pollen)
  • Lessens IgE level (immune system oversensitivity)
  • Strengthen the immune system

During a session, clients breathe in the dry, salt-enriched air into the lungs, the salt is so fine it reaches deep into the lungs and begins to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria and loosens phlegm, which begins to clear rapidly so clients have more lung capacity. The salt will also have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effect on the skin whilst reducing your IgE levels and your sensitivity to allergies. Salt Therapy can help to:

  • Lessen the need for inhalers & antibiotics
  • Makes breathing easier after just a couple sessions
  • Improve lung function
  • Reduce the amount of hospital admittances
  • Reduce the amount of sick days from school / work
  • Ease sneezing, coughing and shortness   of breath
  • Clear phlegm and sticky mucus from lungs
  • Increase the prevention of respiratory tract diseases
  • Fortify your immune system
  • Extend remission times
  • Improve general health and quality of life
  • The treatment’s effectiveness is projected at 75 – 98% contingent on circumstances
  • Relieve irritations and inflammation of the skin
  • Improve sport performance for athletes
