Breastie of the Week – Clair

My name is Clair Bohan and I am 41, married with a 4.5 half year old boy. I found a lump end of October last year and my doctor referred me to Waterford Uni Hospital and it has been an emotional roller-coaster since then. They did a biopsy on the lump and found DCIS so I was diagnosed stage 1 and they did a further 20 biopsies and found cancer so I needed a single mastectomy which was done December 5th. 2 nodes were extracted during mastectomy and one had cancer so I became stage 2. I had CT and bone scan 22nd December and Consultant Aidan Manning left me a voicemail Christmas Eve (best present ever) to say cancer hadn’t spread. I had my nodes removed mid January and started chemo in Kilkenny after my birthday celebrations in March. I have completed 4 of 6 sessions and I am having good success with the cold cap. I am just recovering from my 4th session and it has hit the hardest. I try to get out for a walk most days. I get frustrated not having energy to do things but it is part of the course and I have rejoined the library😁.

I find this page helpful and I have a few ladies who I link in with going through Breast Cancer and they have been great.

I decided not to freeze my eggs so I am lucky I am blessed with my son. I have now given away some of my maternity clothes and I am coming to terms with this.

I will have 5 weeks of Radiotherapy in Whitfield Waterford after my chemo finishes and hopefully between this and then we will get a night or two away or a camping trip.

From my cancer I have learned how to ask for help and have been pleasently surprised how good people have been. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and have a higher appreciation for these precious moments.

Thanks to all the ladies who contribute to this page.. It is great to have such a network of supportive ladies who have your back and keep the positive vibes flowing ❤️🥰🥰
