Just Do IT – checking your breasts after having Breast Cancer

Ladies it is not uncommon to be fearful when it comes to carrying out your breast self examination.  I have had numerous people say to me how unnerving they find checking their breasts and these are women who have never had Breast Cancer.  “What if I find a Lump”, okay I fully understand why girls procrastinate when it comes to checking their breasts it’s much easier to say I don’t have the time or I’ll do it next week.  However worst case scenario if you do have a lump which is Breast Cancer well the best thing for it is finding it as early as possible.  Bear in mind a lot of lumps are harmless so finding a lump does not automatically mean you have Breast Cancer.

Now for the girls who have already had Breast Cancer checking yourself is nerve wracking, a hold your breath experience until you sigh with relief when you are finished checking and everything is okay.  I don’t think that there is one of us that when checking doesn’t get a flicker of the memory of when we first discovered a lump or irregularity the first time around.   Its stomach churning and do you know what WE ALL FEEL THE SAME !!!  There is nothing I can say to take your fear away but I can only say what I keep telling myself.  “Just check yourself, early detection is the most important weapon you have in fighting this illness”

Here is the link to the piece my lovely friend and Clinical Breast Nurse Trudi Roche wrote on how to check your breasts.
