I_Weigh & Jameela showing us what really matters when judging ourselves

For months now I have been following this amazing Instagram account (really its more of a movement) founded by the fabulous Jameela Jamil (she is an actress, for those of you who watch The Good Place she plays Tahani) and it’s called I_Weigh.

As we all have seen social media can shame people for not being perfect, perfect weight, perfect body, and perfect face.  Perfection doesn’t exist and that’s cool because it’s our imperfections that make us unique.   I have also noticed a trend to show yourself at your worst or you are not being real, it is frowned upon if you are made up and in good shape.  I think that kind of shaming is wrong also, if it doesn’t feel right to pop up a photo of yourself with a face full of spots and a dirty house that’s cool too.    The reason I have been drawn to the I-weigh movement is that it focus and celebrates “the person”.    Looks really don’t come into it, bodies don’t come into it, and it’s all about “YOU” the person, what you love, your strengths, and your kindness.  It screams so loudly that we are so much more than the vessels we were born into.

After a Breast Cancer diagnosis I think you will all agree that we are plunged into a sea of insecurity.  No hair, no lashes, scars that we will carry forever; it’s a lesson to us all that what’s inside is really where it’s at.  It’s our nature, the love we surround ourselves with, our health and that of our families, that’s what really matters; I haven’t met one person who wouldn’t exchange every penny they had to not have a cancer diagnosis because at the end of the day life is sweet and precious.

Then you look on social media or TV and you see products being advertised to do everything from smoothing out this wrinkle to banishing your belly.  Most of the products CANNOT work because they go against the genetic make-up of Humans.  This was highlighted by I_Weigh and Jameela recently in an ad campaign from Avon, it was selling cellulite reducing cream the photo caption read “dimples are cute on your face (not on your thighs)”….  It was only when I seen Jameelas reaction to this that it struck me how accepting I have become to this kind of advertising and never even giving it a second thought, check out what I’m talking about.

So I guess this struck a chord with me because I connect with so many of you amazing, kind, loving, strong (I could go on the list is endless) women and it now annoys me to think of anyone being valued or feeling less because of anything other than what’s in their hearts.  If you want to check out what Jameela & I_Weigh have to say here are the links.   I am telling you gals you will love this woman when you see what she’s about.
